Don’t Want To Badger You, But The Clock Is Ticking….

T.J. drew and wrote about our Badger experience in the print version of the Great Lakes Gazette, circa 1997. If you're interested in the entire piece, email me and I'll forward it (

If you’ve been meaning to cross Lake Michigan aboard the car and passenger ferry S.S. Badger but never quite found the occasion to do so, now’s your chance to commit to a trip between Ludington and Manitowoc, Wisconsin. All it takes is the winning bid in the online auction to benefit the promotional and educational programs and efforts of the Michigan Festivals & Events Association.

What the MFEA?

The MFEA is giving you a chance to express your love of Michigan travel adventures and spending some quality time (possibly at a discount) in the Great Lakes State. MFEA promotes—you guessed it—festivals and events across the state, and produces a good online calendar of things to do and places to go at

Besides the Lake Michigan crossing aboard the Badger you can score some great vacation escapes with a winning bid on hotel and resort stays, golf, Detroit Tigers and Symphony Orchestra tickets, NASCAR passes at Michigan International Speedway, and a trip to the past at The Henry Ford in Dearborn.

Can you hear the crickets chirping and the soft sound of waves lapping against the shore? Bid on a stay at Chamberlin's Ole Forest Inn, in Curtis, and you can enjoy the view of Big Manistique Lake from the spacious covered porch

Closing bids will be accepted through 11:59 p.m., Sunday, May 16, 2010.

Give it a bid.

Pull out your credit card, check out the auction items at the MFEA web site, and start packing for a Pure Michigan vacation.

Don’t forget to email me at for the gripping account of our Lake Michigan crossing aboard the historic Badger so many moons ago (well before WiFi, which now supplements BINGO as an on board activity).

  1. Oh pick me, pick me! I’d love to read the story – that TJ’s quite an artist!
