Oo-ee Baby, Won’t You Let Me Take You On A Sea Cruise

Dossin Great Lakes Museum displays a swan boat from Bob-Lo Island Amusement Park, the subject of a Summer Discovery Cruise

Okay, the Summer Discovery Cruises on Michigan waters are less “Love Boat” and more “three-hour tour on the S.S. Minnow” but sound like fun, anyway.

The 2.5 and 4-hour outings aboard the 35-passenger “Schoolship” Clinton explore Lake St. Clair, the St. Clair Flats, and the Lower Detroit River along themes including kids cruises, lighthouses, fisheries, shipping, weather, nature, shipwrecks and history.

Cruises depart from Lake Erie Metropark and Metro Beach Metropark marinas on select dates between June 19 and August 15; adult tickets are $15 and $20; kids ages 6-17 are $10 and $15 (minimum age is 6).

Check out the Summer Discovery Cruises website for details, schedules, and other information.

Don’t forget to pack your evening gown and transistor radio.

NOTE: In addition to the cruise ticket price, figure the cost of the vehicle entry permit required to reach the Metroparks marinas. Annual permit is $25; seniors $15 (62+). Daily permit $5.

The cruises are presented by Michigan Sea Grant, Michigan State University Extension, and Huron-Clinton Metroparks in partnership with Michigan DNR and DTE Energy.
