Homemade: Tom Moran, Metal Artist

Bald Eagle by Tom Moran

What do you do with your free time? Bowl? Golf? Knit? Create gigantic metal sculptures for your community’s annual Fourth of July Parade? Michigan metal worker Tom Moran of Onaway, in the northern Tip of the Mitt area, has been putting his talents to use constructing metal art for a float in the local Independence Day celebration since 1989.

Three of his works are on the grounds of the Jesse Besser Museum in Alpena; on August 13 I wrote about the museum’s temporary exhibit,  WWII: A Tribute Exhibit.

Unknown Soldier

Check out his Moran Iron Works website. I love the tagline under his company name, “Proudly Made in the USA.”

Call Tom the next time you’re in the market for platework or ductwork fabrication, stacks, silencers, baghouse modules, hoppers, precipitator modules, or a bunch of other items listed on his website that I don’t understand.

Honest Abe

Maybe I need a platom or a surge bin and just don’t know it.

Whatever they are, I do hope he makes them half as well as he does his giant works of art.
