Contest Corner: Park It

Strap on your snowshoes and head to a Metropark; sign up for the eNewsletter and you could win an annual park pass

Have you ever been to a Full Cold Moon Bonfire, or taken a sleigh ride through the woods? Curious about animal tracks or winter birds and their survival? Want to snowshoe, cross-cross country ski or just escape to some quiet place to enjoy nature on Christmas Day?

All of this and more is within easy reach of residents and visitors to Southeast Michigan at the 13 Huron-Clinton Metroparks in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw and Livingston counties.

The four-season playgrounds cover almost 24,000 acres of woods, water, sledding hills, golf courses, picnic grounds, beaches and bike paths. In addition to the outdoor recreation opportunities, each park has a full calendar of special activities and events.

Daily park admission is $5; an annual admission pass is $25 ($15 for senior citizens).

Sign up for the Metroparks eNewsletter and you could win a 2011 Annual Pass to enjoy all of the parks throughout the year.

Or gift yourself a pass; at $25 if you only visit each park once you won’t regret what amounts to an entry fee of $1.93 per park.

Enjoy the parks for free on December 25—no admission will be charged on Christmas Appreciation Day.

A sampling of upcoming Metropark events (note that some activities require advance registration and an additional fee):
