Sunday Snapshot: National Pie Day

Tom's Cheery Cherry Cherry Berry Pie from Sweetie-licious Bakery Cafe in DeWitt, north of Lansing

January 23rd is National Pie Day, a tasty tribute established in 1986 by the American Pie Council in honor of Crisco’s 75th anniversary.

Hard to believe, but the APC is “the only organization dedicated to preserving America’s pie heritage and promoting America’s love affair with pies.” The APC, which is “designed to raise awareness, enjoyment and consumption of pies,” is located in the Great Lakes city of Lake Forest, Illinois.

Words to live by at Sweetie-licious

You can learn a bit about the history of pies and find recipes at the APC website.

It’s not official and you won’t hear this from the APC, but I understand pies consumed on National Pie Day are calorie-free.

So go ahead and celebrate: bake or buy and enjoy a good pie.

  1. Yummy! Especially good warmed with a scoop (or two) of vanilla ice cream! Hey, I may have to make a run to Traverse City Pie Co.

    • Why not, Pie Day comes just once a year.
