On March 26, Celebrate Your Way

March 26 is Dreaming of a Day in a Hammock Day

A mantra of my late friend Waldo was, “You got to make your own good times.”

And on March 26 you can do just that. It’s “Make Your Own Holiday Day.”

As a fan of the odd holidays created by fans or purveyors of everything from food products (March is National Frozen Food Month) to causes (Sava A Spider Day, March 14) that clutter online calendars I occasionally check the www to see what special day I’m missing.

Someone declared March 25 International Waffle Day, and that refers to both the breakfast food and permission to waffle on issues and decisions. But don’t confuse it with Naitonal Waffle Day (August 24) or National Waffle Iron Day (June 29).

I just missed National Chocolate Covered Raisin Day (March 24). Speaking of near misses, March 23 was Near Miss Day.

But Saturday, March 26 is a DIY celebration day. If you truly believe in it you can apply to reserve it and even appeal to Congress to award it “national” recognition.

Sorry, Tucker, we missed that March 3 holiday

Not sure what I will call my March 26 holiday.

What If Cats and Dogs Had Opposable Thumbs Day (March 3) and Bunsen Burner Day (March 31) are taken.

Those of us of a certain age could use a Boomer Bonus Day. Mark your calendar; it’s already set for April 1.

I was going to create Tangible Karma Day, when “Giving of your time, of your love, of your talents, of your ‘extras'” seemed like a good idea, because it is—look forward to it on the first Saturday of each April (April 2, 2011).

Trap Those Dust Bunnies Day is more necessary than fun, and it might attract PETA attention.

Maybe I’ll just call it Who Needs Another Holiday Day. But why be a party pooper.

Hammock on a snowy beach

with the long winter and lingering cold weather we’re enjoying I think I’ll settle on Dreaming of a Day in a Hammock Day (plain old Hammock Day is July 22).

Smile. March 27-April 2 is National Root Canal Awareness Week.

  1. I’m with you on that one, Kath!

    • Hurry spring…and summer!
