More car talk: Yesterday the  T-Plex, the original Model T factory in Detroit.

Buy a raffle ticket for a chance to win this 1930 Model A Ford

Now I want to tell you about a raffle and the chance to win the follow-up to the Model T that was built by Ford from 1928-31.

The prize is a 1930 Model A Tudor that from the photos looks black, but is the color “Andalusite Blue.” The car has been stored inside and is in “ready to drive home” condition.

Raffle tickets are $10 each, or 3 chances for $25, 9 for $50. The drawing will take place on July 1, 2011.

The contest is sponsored by the Model A Ford Foundation, which is raising funds to build a Model A Ford Museum at the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, near Kalamazoo and Battle Creek.

The prize Model A Tudor is a two-door (not a four-door Fordor)

The 12,000-square foot museum will resemble a Ford dealership, circa 1929.

Displays of the honored auto will be accompanied by fashions and displays about events of the era, such as the Roaring ’20s, stock market crash, and Depression.

The Gilmore is a cool car museum that’s really a complex of buildings on former farmland, with 8 red barns renovated to house the vehicle collection. Other buildings on the 90-acre campus include a recreated service station (pictured above), an authentic diner, and a Pierce-Arrow Museum.

It was a 1920 Pierce-Arrow, a fixer-upper that Genevieve Gilmore gave to her husband Donald on his birthday in 1963, that sparked his interest in old cars. A hobby turned into a passion, which led to creation of the museum 45 years ago.

Special exhibits feature the History of Stock Car Racing, vehicles important to the Great Migration of the Depression, vintage motorcycles, and Ford Muscle cars.

We spent a full day at the Gilmore when the kids were young and are overdue for a return visit. Wonder if we should go in the Splattered Van or wait until after the raffle and motor there in our Model A?

Hey, someone’s going to win!
