Contest Corner: Weak Michigan Week

A state worth celebrating...or not

It seemed like a good idea at the time: Michigan Week, an annual salute to all that’s great about the Great Lakes State was launched in 1954.

What started as an action-packed celebration has petered out into to a smattering of events plastered with a Michigan Week banner.

The event was once button-worthy

Even the annual Michigan Week parade in Sturgis, a 50-year tradition, has been scrubbed.

At least you can try for a prize from a Southeast Michigan community newspaper group:

“Win A Basket of Michigan Products”

I have no idea what’s in the basket, but all you have to do is click above, fill in the online info form by May 23 and you’re entered to win the goodies from C & G Newspapers.

And as you know, if you don’t enter you can’t win!

  1. I played along, Kath! Thanks for the tip–and making me think about this state that I love so much. 🙂

  2. I hope you win!
As a kid I always looked forward to Michigan Week—we had activities at school. Too bad it’s faded away.
Maybe it’s just on hiatus, getting its second wind.

  3. I have a Scripto Vu Lighter with a fishing lure inside, engraved on one side “UBLY”, and on the other side “MICHIGAN WEEK 1960”. It is FOR SALE for $20.00 should have interest e-mail weholman@bellsouth.net
