Let’s Rally To Help Traveling Teddies

Here’s a chance to help raise funds for a worthy cause that will take barely five minutes of your time.

The Society of American Travel Writers (SATW), an organization of travel journalists and public relations professionals in the U.S. and Canada, sponsors a Traveling Teddies program with the aim of sharing world adventures with elementary school students who have “adopted” the stuffed buddies.

Over the last 15 years SATW members have carried bear pals with them on assignment and sent back photos, stories, and souvenirs to the students about the wonders and joys of travel.

Two of the SATW bears are entered in the online Road Rally at the Best of the Road website sponsored by Rand McNally and USA Today.

The Traveling Teddies need votes so they can see the USA and take home the $10,000 prize.

The cash will be distributed by SATW as geography education scholarships for high school seniors in the U.S. and Canada.

At last check the bears were behind by about 375 votes. To help put the Teddies on the road to success:

– Go to Best of the Road website,

– At the top blue bar click on Road Rally – Browse Teams

– Find the SATW Traveling Teddies (and the names of their human sponsors, SATW members Diana M. & Betsa M.)

– Click on Vote for us. (You’ll have to register by filling in your name and a few details, then confirm your registration via an email.)

On the SATW Traveling Teddies page you’ll find a minute-long video of the SATW bears and some of their travels, and a further description of the program.

Voting closes May 30. You’re limited to one vote, so put the pedal to the metal and show your support, then spread the word and get your friends to help (legally) stuff the ballot box.
