Glass Academy: Hot Spot, Cool Fun

Receive a unique glass at the June 16 Glass Academy wine event (Glass Academy photo)

As temperatures in the 313 head toward 100 F today, watching hot glass being made might not be at the top of your To Do list.

Just know that the Glass Academy in Dearborn is hosting its monthly Coffee Night, where you can enjoy a complimentary cuppa joe while watching a glass artist at work.

If you’d like to try your hand at the craft, pre-register for the Coffee Night workshop and make a paperweight or flower for $45, or stamp a glass coin for $10.

Coffee Nights are held from 6-9 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month, so if it’s just too darn hot for hot glass this evening you have another half dozen chances to check it out later this year.

The Glass Academy is a studio space and gallery for artists including founders Chris Nordin and Michelle Plucinsky of Furnace Design Studio (just typing the name makes me sweat).

They renovated a 14,000 square foot former machine shop for workspace and offer tours, programs, and group and private classes.
