Homemade: Fudge For Breakfast

Hot Fudge: It’s not just for ice cream anymore.

However, as a follow-up to the post about National Ice Cream Month, I want to encourage chocolate lovers to discover Mama Tallarico’s Hot Fudge as a topping for your favorite scoop or, as I first experienced it, at the most important meal of the day.

At Cocoa Cottage Bed & Breakfast, near White Lake and the Lake Michigan shore in Whitehall, the homemade chocolate is served with fresh fruit and chocolate zucchini bread alongside more traditional morning dishes.

Mama Tallarico’s chocolate is too thick to be called a sauce—to me that implies a brown substance you pour out of a can. This rich treat must be spooned out and plopped into a pan for heating, or onto a dish with the fruit.

Lisa Tallarico concocted the topping long before she and her husband renovated their 1912 Arts & Crafts bungalow into a B&B. More about Cocoa Cottage in the near future.

Just know that chocolate for breakfast is an idea that’s long overdue, and Mama Tallarico’s Hot Fudge is pretty good on ice cream, too.
