Gran Torino: 2008 R rated drama starring Clint Eastwood with Bee Vang and Ahney Her. Directed by Clint Eastwood. Screenplay by Nick Schenk, story by Dave Johannson and Nick Schenk.
Michigan’s movie money encouraged Clint to shoot this film here, using locations in Highland Park (his home), Grosse Pointe Woods (his son’s home), Grosse Pointe Park (hardware store), and Detroit, Royal Oak, and Center Line.
Clint is Walt Kowalski, a Korean War veteran who is not happy with the gangs and other changes in his Detroit neighborhood, especially when a Hmong kid tries to steal his treasured 1972 Gran Torino.
The story revolves around Clint’s effort to hold onto his home and reform the teen.
Watch this only if you can handle a script that relies heavily on four letter words.
I was reminded of Gran Torino movie recently when we caught a few minutes of Air Force One, the 1997 flick with Harrison Ford as President. As he disposes of a hijacker Ford says, “Get off my plane.”
In Gran Torino Clint warns a bunch of hooligans, “Get off my lawn.”
A movie buff out there put the two clips together; click here to see the comparison on a short YouTube video.
