Fall For Art

Memory Cloud will hover near the Detroit Institute of Arts

While Mother Nature and her paintbrush are busy creating a colorful fall foliage show, Michigan communities are holding autumn art events.

ArtPrize continues in Grand Rapids through October 9, while the fourth annual Detroit Gallery Week kicks off September 30 and runs through October 8 with exhibitions, gallery crawls, openings and shows across the metro area.

For the first three nights something called Memory Cloud will fill the night sky outside of the Detroit Institute of Arts. Memory Cloud is a combination of smoke and light and the words—the memories—shared by Detroiters.

I can’t imagine how the art studio Minimaforms accomplishes this temporary work of art, but it sounds fascinating and will be hanging around Midtown, 8-9:30 p.m., Friday-Sunday, September 30-October 1.

Should be a nice weekend for a road trip near the Lake Michigan shore in the southwest Lower Peninsula to see artists at work during the Blue Coast Artists 22nd Annual Studio Tour Saturday-Sunday, October 1-2.

Many upcoming festivals include art and craft shows; check out this calendar and make time to fall for art.
