The Rolls-Royce Of The American Taxi: Check It Out

The Kalamazoo Valley Museum showcases an example of the Checker Cabs once made in the city

Check out the Story of the Week in the  “You Auto Know” newsletter of the MotorCities National Heritage Area.

The article, “The Checker Cab – The Rolls-Royce of American Taxis,” tells how the iconic workhorse of the urban transportation scene was first built in 1922, moved production to Kalamazoo in 1923, with the last Checker Cab rolling out in 1982.

There’s an example of the popular cab at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum in beautiful downtown Kalamazoo. Worth making time to check it out.
