Contest Corner: Fore Golfers

Golf Tullymore, in the palm of Michigan's Mitten

The unseasonably warm weather has Michigan asparagus popping early, tulips blooming ahead of the annual Tulip Time Festival and cherry blossoms appearing in March instead of May.

Sculptures dot the grounds at Tullymore

But golfers are happy that they can swing into the season early this year. Some courses have already opened. Tullymore Golf Resort in Stanwood plans to open Friday, March 30.

Tullymore, located 30 miles west of Mt. Pleasant and an hour north of Grand Rapids, is a semi-private club and development with homes, condos and property for sale.

My brother Gordie and his golfing buddy rave about the golf at its two courses: Tullymore, designed by Jim Engh, opened in 2002; the St. Ives course designed by Jerry Matthews opened in 1995.

You can book a room at The Inn at St. Ives or luxury lodging at Tullymore; I stayed overnight in one of the Residence Club units and it was lovely. Golf packages are available.

Giveaway: Register online to receive the Tullymore e-newsletter and e-specials, and you could win one of the monthly prizes of four rounds of golf. You can’t win if you don’t enter!

  1. I think Tullymore opened in 2001, not 2010. I know I’ve lost golf balls there for more than two years. Gordie.

  2. Good catch…close. It opened in 2002. I was thinking 10th anniversary when I typed that. Hope you entered and win!
