Friday Freebie: App-solutely Lansing

Explore the capital city with the winning bid on a family weekend in Lansing

Get your freebie guide to Lansing in app form or traditional print

My phone is so smart it knows that Wildflower Weekend is May 12 at Woldumar Nature Center, Michigan’s State Capitol Building contains nine-plus acres of hand-painted surfaces, and Joe’s Gizzard City, owned by the Bristol family since 1960, claims to have the best chicken gizzards you’ve ever tasted.

As far as I know I’ve never tasted chicken gizzards, but I may have to follow the advice from my Droid and head to Potterville to give them a try.

This new source of wisdom is courtesy the Greater Lansing Convention & Visitors Bureau, which offers its Explore Greater Lansing app for Android, BlackBerry, iPhone and iPad. All free.

In a couple of clicks I had the handy visitors info at my finger tips. It’s simple to navigate, carries a lot of good info, and the colors are great, too.

I haven’t put it through its paces on location, but from here in the 313 it looks like a nice and easy-to-use tool. Reviewers have given it lots of stars.

Check it out on the Lansing website, where you can also order the paper version of the Greater Lansing Visitors Guide.

I may have to request a copy of the battery-free magazine as a back-up.

  1. Thanks Kath! This app really helps get around town. Next time when you’re in Lansing try the “What’s Nearby” feature! If you come to eat at your favorite restaurant, it will tell you close attractions, festivals, etc. Pretty nifty!

    • Looking forward to putting my first destination app to the test!
