Bogie, Bacall and Bromfield

Clark Gable swept here? Chickens peck in the barnyard of the still-functioning Malabar Farm. All guests, even Hollywood stars, had to do chores including cleaning the barn.

On May 21, 1945 Hollywood stars Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall tied the knot in an Ohio farmhouse of their friend, writer and conservationist Louis Bromfield.

They weren’t the only famous folks to find their way to Bromfield’s Malabar Farm in Mansfield, Ohio. Clark Gable, James Cagney were among the guests who trekked to the Great Lakes region for a visit—and were handed a list of chores to do during their stay.
