Contest Corner: Make A Mini Movie For The Traverse City Film Festival

Traverse City’s State Theatre is headquarters for the annual film festival; the 2012 dates are July 31-August 5

So you want to make motion pictures? Fire up your creative juices, get the camera rolling and practice yelling, “Action.” You could see your work on the silver screen among the 105 feature films that have been selected for the 8th Annual Traverse City Film Festival, July 31-August 5.

Filmmaker Michael Moore, who owns a home in the Northwest Lower Peninsula near Traverse City, initiated the annual non-profit cinematic event that promises to show “Just Great Movies.”

You can take a shot at your flick being one of them by creating a bumper (a short film) that shares your idea of what’s great about Traverse City. The top prize is $1,000 and a screening of  your bumper prior to one of the TCFF feature films.

The bumper should…

  • express “Why TC is So Cool”
  • run 20 to 60 seconds
  • be submitted on DVD (higher resolutions are welcome if your trailer is selected)
  • display above-average production values

Dig out your baseball cap (all film directors wear them, don’t they?) and get busy. Entries must be submitted by July 16.

Bumper contest details are online at the TCFF site, where you can also check out last year’s bumper winners and learn about the 2012 schedule of feature films and other TCFF events.

You can’t win if you don’t enter!
